"THE SHOE THAT FITS DOES NOT PRESS,
THE BIRD IN THE AIR FORGETS THE AIR.
THE FISH SWIMMING IN THE WATER FORGETS THE WATER".
Aligning the body correctly in Qigong is fundamental and crucial to the effectiveness and efficiency of the practice.
Aligning the body physically is a good and easy approach to Qigong, as for most of us, it is easier to place knees, chest or tongue in a correct way than to work with Qi directly. And yet, the alignments and the flow of Qi are intimately connected. If we align the body correctly in relation to gravity, we stand effortlessly and can relax. If we are relaxed, Qi can flow freely, whereas if we stand in an incorrect (and therefore tense) posture, the flow of Qi is obstructed and prevented. Practicing the alignments in standing, sitting, walking and also interacting, helps us to have a deep and natural connection with our body and therefore more presence and awareness.
Even though very often underestimated and neglected, alignment practice is the most important and fundamental to make (your) Qi Gong work, being effective and having results.
To learn and understand all the alignments and their (inter)actions will require depth and time.
That’s why within the Path of Dao teachings this is the workshop everyone must attain if you are truly interested in the practice of Qi Gong.
Alignment and presence practice will connect you strongly to your body, something urgently needed in this time of alienation to our bodies.
Furthermore this connection (to the body) has to be stabilised and maintained over long periods of time in order to open the body up and then bring the Qi into the body. Just from here it is that the inner work can begin.
