dao yoga and advanced daoist breathing

Reversed breathing and compression breathing are the breathing methods for advanced Qigong, Taijiquan and Meditation. Dao Yoga postures enable us to open up, compress and use different spaces in the body for our breathing.

Workshop Description

In Qi Gong we know the three regulations: the regulation of posture (physical body), the regulation of breathing (emotional body) and the regulation of thoughts (mental body). In this course, we will specifically deal with breathing and opening spaces (physical, emotional and mental).

The basic form of breathing that we need to cultivate at the beginning of our Qi Gong practice is deep and relaxed abdominal breathing. Once this has been established, we begin to open and use other spaces for our breathing.

In this workshop, we will specifically develop and “breathe” the sides of the body (liver and spleen breathing) and the lower back (kidney breathing).

Furthermore, we will start with the advanced breathing techniques: reversed breathing and, in particular, compression breathing. To do this, we will use certain postures from Daoist Yoga, which specifically release and strengthen the diaphragm – our respiratory muscle.

In Dao Yoga, we use various positions to create compression, open our system and increase the flow of Qi, directing it to specific structures.

Dao Yoga is not meant to achieve flexibility and stretchiness per se. These happen naturally as a side effect of the practice. The aim of the postures is rather to relax the nerves and the flow of Qi throughout the body. When nerves and Qi relax, the body naturally opens up and the breath deepens.

In this workshop, we will use various Dao Yoga postures and Daoist breathing in a way that these two methods support each other while enhancing the effect of each one.
